Sister by Sibling

Orla Kiely

Sculptural Pieces

The last theme that we have to choose from is Sculptural Pieces, which is much more challenging in my opinion, as you would have to create 3D samples. I have found a few artists that have managed to do this successfully, and has inspired me to do so as well..

HOLLY LEVELL;

KATE JENKINS;

KATHERINE DIUGUID;

 BEATA KANIA;

MICHAEL BRENNAND-WOOD;

KAREN NICOL;

These artists have all used different techniques to make their artwork 3-Dimensional and original.

Textile Techniques

We have done quite a bit of work in class with different art and textile Techniques, which puts this theme slap bang in the middle of my comfort zone! Finding artists and designers for this theme was therefore much easier than the others, as I knew what I was looking for as inspiration...

ERANGA BANDARANAYALE;

KATE JENKINS;

LISA EARLEY;

STEPHANIE CRISTOFARO;

STELLA ADAMS-SCHOFIELD;

VERONICA GRASSI;

These Artists all use techniques that I have previously used in the classroom, such as layering, dissoluble fabric, printing, multimedia techniques, beading, embellishment, distressing and burning.

Maps and Grids

Maps and Grids is another theme given to us in this exam paper. I have found two artists who inspire me in this theme..

JENNIFER COLLIER;

 JANET BROWNE;
Both of these Artists use a multitude of techniques, such as Layering, Quilting and Recycling to create wonderfully quirky and unique final pieces.

Stylized Patterns

I have found some interesting new Artists for the Stylized Patterns theme in this Unit;

MICHAEL BRENNAND-WOOD;

NAHIDA MAHMOOD;

JAMES HUNTING;

These Artists use Repeating, Bright Geometric design, usually based on nature, to create Stylized Patterns.

Decisions, Decisons...

Having recieved our exam question, we now have a theme we can work our inspirational Artists and Designers around. I have narrowed my choices down to four Themes; Textile Techniques, Sculptural Pieces, Maps and Grids and Stylized Patterns. Now's the difficult part... Choosing only one of them...

Thinking Outside the Box

Creating Original pieces and Developing ideas to out-there final pieces is a must in this subject, though finding Artists and Designers with fresh ideas is a challenge.

Take Hillary Fayle for example, she combines delicate hand-stitched lace work with Natural materials, creating a beautiful final effect..
