Development of my samples & final piece..

Okay, 3 hours and a half of my exam time done... ouch!

I have taken the exam question and my artists and designers into consideration, and have been inspired into making a patchwork-quilt style piece, with some sculptural elements sewn-in.

With this piece, I have stuffed the shape of the flower with some padding, before stitching heavily over the top. This has given this sample a 3D effect, and  links well with one of my designers, Karen Nicol.

I made this piece by layering some organza over my own photo, before following the shape of the rose with red thread. This has given the sample a depth of texture and colour, and has made it look very delicate, like the wired samples that Michael Brennand-Wood creates.

This artist has really inspired me with his sculptural pieces, because I find them so fascinating to look at, and every time you do look at them, you see something that you hadn't seen before. His use of  contrasting colours and modern shapes are intuitive and fresh.

To gain inspiration for some of my sample work, I have looked at other artists' work.

Karen Nicol's use of inspiration from nature has helped me to hone in on one theme- Flowers - which has helped me, in turn, to decide on a colour scheme. Her work has also shown me that a piece can look 2D at first glance, but actually include a massive amount of depth an textures to create a 3D piece of art.
