Final Piece

My final piece is inspired by the traditional use of patchwork in quilts, with a modern twist using 3D aspects, and different textural aspects.

This is my final design, showing where each sample would fit together.

I like my final piece, and have truly enjoyed this final unit, having found a subject that inspires me.

Design Ideas

After completing my exam time, I have produced enough samples to create my final piece. All that's left to do is decide what to create as a final piece... something that will link to my exam question, as well as link to my artists.. Michael Brennand-Wood and Karen Nicol.

DESIGN NO. 1-

This design is inspired by Karen Nicol. The unusual shape at the bottom of the dress makes your eye travel, and the irregular sizes of the flowers add interest. The patchwork background of the dress gives the piece a pixelated effect. I like this design, as the sculptured silhouette of the dress links to my exam question well, and the mix of classical and modern techniques make the design interesting and unusual.

DESIGN NO.2 -

This design is inspired by Michael Brennand-Wood's sculptural pieces. The sculptured, 3D rose used as the base is made up of patchwork pieces, with roses coming out of the base using wire. This design links well to my exam question, but I believe that it would be too complicated to try and mold the base into the shape that I want.

DESIGN NO.3-

This design incorporates both the sculptured aspects of Michael Brennand-Wood's designs with the unusual but classical designs of Karen Nicol. I like this design very much, and believe that the overall finish of the piece would look professional and creative.
